Pisces – The Fishes

By Rob Tillett, Astrologer

Pisces, the Fishes

The Sun brightened sensitive Pisces, a feminine sign on your birthday. In astrology, the Sun stands for your inner nature, the true mark of your character. The twelfth sign of the Zodiac, Pisces is ruled by fortunate Jupiter and new age astrologers have also assigned Neptune to this role, though traditional masters of the art do not. A mutable (changeable and communicative) sign, dreamy Pisces is the exaltation of Venus, the goddess of love and artistic sensibility. It is a water sign, so Piscean people are creative, sensitive and deeper than they appear on the surface, although they can be emotionally vulnerable, clinging and rather melancholic.

The light of the Sun, ruler of our inner nature, is somewhat dimmed in Pisces, the home of Jupiter (lord of the gods) and his elusive brother Neptune (the king of the sea). Jupiter gives you a thirst for knowledge and understanding, with a natural lucky streak.

Neptune brings out your sensitive and spiritual qualities, but it can also lay you open to deception and intrigue (that is if it’s not you who is doing the deceiving!). You have probably noticed that Neptune can stimulate a thirst of a quite different variety — a thirst for liquor, drugs and addictive substances in general (including the addictions of love… ). Both of these great planets influence your personality.

Aquarius – The Water Bearer

Aquarius, the Water Bearer

The Sun shone in Aquarius, a masculine sign on your birthday. The Sun in astrology stands for our inner nature, or character. The eleventh sign of the zodiac, Aquarius, the Water-Bearer, is ruled by serious Saturn and outrageous Uranus. What an alarming mixture! A fixed (strong and solid) sign, Aquarius governs intellect and originality. It is an Air sign, which makes Aquarians generally intelligent, unorthodox and inventive, although you often appear to be eerily detached and personally uninvolved.

The Sun, ruler of our inner nature, is in the sign of its detriment here, for Saturn, the ruler of the outer darkness, is enthroned in Aquarius. The erratic energy of Uranus, planet of the unorthodox and eclectic, makes you unpredictable and subject to profound and unexpected deviations from the norm. Yet, due to the restrictive influence of Saturn, Aquarians exhibit considerable personal stability and work well within a structured environment.

Please read on to get more insight into this inventive Sun Sign – http://astroscope.me/aquarius.html

Aquarius Sexuality

Aquarius, by Boris Vallejo. Click for more Zodiac Images

Aquarius, by Boris Vallejo
By permission. Copyright Boris Vallejo & Julie Bell

Your sexuality is steady, yet unorthodox. You are experimental and love the unorthodox and the unusual in sexual encounters, which you often undergo, for you are not afraid to follow your desires.

Ruled by Uranus, the unconventional god of the sky, you always aim high and wild, although your co-ruler, Saturn, the god of karma and restriction, usually keeps your feet firmly on the ground.

An unconventional nature makes you impatient with less adventurous souls, while your powerful intellect propels you into original thought and desire to take things to the limit in unusual directions.  Please read on – http://astroscope.me/aquariussex.html

January Dailies!
In the new year we all seek to make a fresh beginning, removing the blues of the old year. In Hindu mythology, Ganesha is the moste adored and venerated deity of the entire pantheon. You’ve seen Ganesha in our header for AstroScope Me — and there’s a reason for it: he is the remover of obstacles. No fresh venture, whether the building of a new house, the writing of a book, the beginning of a journey or the starting of a new business is undertaken in Hindu India without first seeking Ganesha’s blessings. Ganesha, through astrology, helps us to know what can be achieved and what cannot be. So it’s the new year and time to call down Ganesha’s good wishes for us all. Here are my daily horoscope forecasts for January, so Go Ganesha! Check out what is in store for you in my Daily Horoscopes for January. http://astroscope.me/future.html

The Living Signs

Hellenistic Astrology – The Living Signs
part 1: Introducing the Zoidia

by Steven Birchfield

Zeus with Ganymede

The broad river of Modern Western Astrology has evolved over the centuries, incorporating a variety of tributories, from sources as diverse as the Babylonians, the Egyptians, Greeks, Indians and Arabs. Steven Birchfield, an astrologer and philosopher, has been writing a series for us on Hellenistic Astrology, the underlying basis of our system. This section begins his fascinating exploration of the Living Signs…

This essay has been a rather ambitious project I’ve been working on for several months and it appears it may be a while longer before it is completely finished. However I wanted to begin publishing it in the individual parts as I feel comfortable with the results. So what is now available is pretty much finished and as I finish the other sections I will be including them.

I wanted to discuss the ‘Signs’ on perhaps a little different level in this essay. We are all used to seeing a lot of interpretations of the ‘Sun in the Signs’ or the Moon or the other planets in the Signs. You don’t hear much about the signs themselves. In fact it is pretty consistent that when the ‘signs’ are discussed as a subject themselves, we find the traditional descriptions most prevalent where their elemental nature, mode of action, physical attributes, etc. are described.

There is another side however that appears with remarkable consistency throughout the major early writers, a side that has perhaps fallen off a bit into obscurity and ambiguity. In order to understand this side we will have to go back a ways in our astrological history and try to regain just what the early Hellenistic astrologers meant when they used the term we call ‘signs’.

Sagittarius – Sign of the Month

Sagittarius, the ArcherSagittarius, the sign of wide-ranging travel (both physical and mental), matters of the higher mind—and having a good time—is the ninth sign of the tropical zodiac. Sagittarius is our featured Sign of the month! Sagittarians have a dynamic personality, with a sense of personal freedom that can be both stimulating and challenging. Sagittarian people have a lively interest in exploring the distant reaches of the world, both innner and outer. They love to take chances and to travel, making them the great gamblers of the zodiac. Sagittarians, the high priests of the zodiac, will rise to any challenge, especially in the area of romance. The famous emblem for Sagittarius is the Archer, armed with the arrow of truth. Free and honest in their approach, they expect others to be likewise. The Sagittarian arrow shoots for the stars, holding the blazing light of truth in an arc that illuminates the world. Accepting Now: An Empowerment

Have you ever had the feeling of being trapped in a negative state that you can’t get out of – even though you want to? It could be one of feeling angry, resentful, frightened, jealous, sad, lonely or anything else that is a “downer” and just goes on and on. You may feel trapped inside yourself, unable to speak or reach out for help, unresponsive to others. There’s a part of you that really wants to feel different – that wants to “snap out” of it – but you just can’t shake the “black cloud” that’s settled on you. Energy-awareness practitioners Stephen and Lynda Kane examine ways of dealing with the dark state of depression and negativity that we can fall into from time to time, especially under such aspects as are now active. They call this experience the “gollum state”, because, like Gollum in “Lord of the Rings”, it is characterized by repeatedly expressing negative or unhappy thoughts to oneself and  feeling cut off from everyone else. Gaining control over negative energy patterns is what it’s all about!. More on Accepting Now… http://astroscope.me/acceptance.html

Winter Solstice, Newgrange

The Solstice – Time of the Cosmic Rebirth

The Solstice is soon to be upon us, folks! It’s the traditional time of merriment and gift-giving, but did you know that the word “Solstice” derives from the Latin Sol + systere, meaning “Sun” + “standing still”? At the December Solstice, the Sun halts over the Tropic of Capricorn (23°S26′) for some three days at the end of his journey south, before recommencing his life-giving journey north. This, the longest night of the year (or shortest in the Southern Hemisphere), happens in 2014 at Yuletide on the eve of the 22nd of December )Dec. 21), for the measurement of days once began from sunset, rather than midnight. People across the world, in every culture, have assigned a great deal of meaning to this journey of the Sun; a broad spectrum of mythological, religious and social customs have accumulated around it. At the time of the Solstice (to be exact, just as the Solstice ended), people celebrated the birth of the Sun on December 25, now most widely celebrated as Christmas Day… http://astroscope.me/christmas.html  The solsticial period lasts some three days, so when the Sun begins to rise earlier again, it has traditionally been cause for jubilation since prehistoric times More on The Solstice. ….http://astroscope.me/solstice.html

Mother Earth Father Sky, by Susan Seddon-Boulet
Have a Cool Yule!

December 21 marks the celebration of the ancient festival of Yule at the Solstice.  Yule is the pagan celebration of the birth of the Sun and the turning of the Wheel of the Year.  The birth of the Sun has been celebrated since time immemorial on or just after the solstice, which is why the birth of Jesus is celebrated at this time (December 25). Ancient Rome recognized it in the day of the birth of the Invincible Sun, so the choice of this day for Christmas was a handy christianization of the established festival of Mithras, the Sun God and a number of other Solar Heroes. That is why John Calvin and other leaders of the Reformaton abhorred it, why the Puritans refused to acknowledge it, much less celebrate it (to them, no day of the year could be more holy than the Sabbath), and why it was even made illegal in Boston! Ultimately, of course, the holiday is rooted deeply in the cycle of the year. It is the winter solstice that is being celebrated, seed time of the year, the longest night and shortest day. It is the immediate precursor to the birthday of the new Sun King, the Son of God – by whatever name you choose to call him. On this darkest of nights, the Virgin Goddess becomes the Great Mother and once again gives birth. Read more on the ancient festival of Yule, the Wheel of the Year. http://astroscope.me/yule.html

December Dailies!
In the olden days of ancient Greece we did not have computer-driver observatories and massive space stations to keep our eyes on the stars. Nevertheless, the astronomers, who at that time were also astrologers and wise men, managed to keep track of the planets, stars and cosmic constellations that still form the basis of our art today. They also constructed a beautiful and insightful body of myths that help explain our place in the world and model our future experiences. How about that! Hmm. Rune MagicRune Magic

What are the Runes? They are a mystery, a language and a wellspring of magical tradition, and they come in various disguises. We might know the Runes as the oracle of the Vikings, the fierce seafaring folk that sailed from the icy North to make a mark upon Europe, Britain and the Americas. Yet the Vikings did not devise the Runes for they were simply one of many peoples that bore a branch from the tree of the Runic Tradition. Neil Giles, astrologer, runemaster, examines the magical nature of the Runes, an ancient Teutonic doorway into the mysteries of consciousness (His book, Odin’s Runes, the best book on the Runes and the Elder Futhark, is available from this web site.) The Leonid Meteor Display

Leonids

The Leonid Meteor Display

– by Rob Tillett

The Leonids are a meteor shower that originates in the constellation of Leo the Lion, occurring in mid-November. At this time, planet Earth glides through a minefield of cosmic dust clouds from the tail of Comet Tempel-Tuttle. When Earth travels through the cloud we experience a Leonid meteor shower. This year the Leonids are expected to peak on the night of Nov. 16th and 17th.

Aside from their occasional spectacular displays, the Leonids are important for understanding the origin of meteors and their relationship to comets. They play an important role in trying to predict meteor showers themselves. This year, a moderate display is predicted.

Meteors are the light trails we see when small dust grains or rocks enter the Earth’s atmosphere. Most of the meteors are caused by dust particles no bigger than a grain of sand. Meteor showers occur when a lot of dust and rock enter our atmosphere close together. These associations of dust and rock are thought to be debris ejected from comets (more rarely from asteroids) and the Leonids are associated with comet 55P/Temple Tuttle.

Scorpio, by Boris Vallejo.

Scorpio Sexuality. Scorpio sexuality is deep, intense and all-consuming. The Scorpion seeks transformation through the sexual experience, which they never undertake lightly. Ruled by Mars, the god of primitive action and (in modern astrology) Pluto the lord of the underworld, Scorpio mixes primal passion with a profound need to uncover the mysteries of life and death, including and especially sexual ones. Scorpio’s emotions run deep and their faculty of intuition is remarkably accurate, so the Scorpion antennae can prick up and pick out a prospective partner at first sight. The Way of the Scorpion! Seductive Scorpio, the sign of intensity, sexuality and deep transformation, is the eighth sign of the tropical zodiac. As the Sun joins the Moon in a Solar Eclipse in Scorpio, accompanied by luscious Venus, we are focused on exploring the deep and fascinating world of astrology and relationships. Scorpio, the Scorpion, our featured Sign of the month has a magnetic personality, with a sense of personal power which can be both exciting and overwhelming (for gentler souls!). Scorpio people are intensely interested in discovering the deep truths about relationships, spiritual matters and themselves. They love to get to the bottom of things and make great detectives. There’s no casual fooling around on the surface with a Scorpio! They want to get to the heart of the matter and soon become impatient with superficiality. Halloween

Halloween. Halloween, the light-hearted modern festivity of ghosts and ghoulies, frights and feast, trick or treat, has much more serious (and scary!) origins in the ancient Celtic Feast of the Dead. All Saints’ Day (November 1), also known as All Hallows’ Day is followed by All Souls’ Day (Nov 2), a christianized version of the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, the Feast of the Dead. The Christian theological basis for the feast is that the faithful on earth can aid the salvation of the departed souls by prayers, good deeds and especially by the sacrifice of the Mass, but the customs of Samhain are just a bit spookier! This festival has survived, due to its connection with the archetypal energies that it evokes and due to its more recent connection with the Christian festival of All Souls, which the Church has instituted as a substitute for this pagan celebration.

All Hallows

All Hallows’ Eve. October 31 is Samhain. All Hallows. All Hallows’ Eve. Hallow E’en. Halloween. The most magical night of the year. Exactly opposite Beltane on the wheel of the year, Halloween is Beltane’s dark twin. A night of glowing jack-o’-lanterns, bobbing for apples, tricks or treats, and dressing in costume. A night of ghost stories and séances, tarot card readings and scrying with mirrors. A night of power, when the veil that separates our world from the Otherworld is at its thinnest. Mike Nicholls explains that All Hallows’ Eve is the eve of All Hallows’ Day (November 1). And for once, even popular tradition remembers that the eve is more important than the day itself, the traditional celebration focusing on October 31, beginning at sundown. More on All Hallows’ Eve. http://astroscope.me/allhallowseve.html

Ganesha Blessing at Diwali

Diwali, Festival of Lights. The best-known of the Hindu festivals, Diwali is celebrated throughout India at the New Moon on the fifteenth day of the month Kartika, or Ashwin (October/November), as well as in Indian communities throughout the world. A moveable feast, Diwali happens on October 23, 2014 – though it is a five-day festivity. A harvest festival and a celebration of the Lunar New Year, Diwali has strong astrological energies, like similar festivals the world over. The worship of Lakshmi, goddess of wealth, and Ganesha, the divine remover of obstacles, is also celebrated throughout the country at this time. It signifies the renewal of life, so it is the done thing to wear new clothes on the day of the festival. It seems to have begun as a harvest festival, yet, as the beginning of the Lunar New Year, it also heralds the approach of winter and the start of a new sowing season. The name “Diwali” (from the sanskrit: deepãvali, meaning “a garland of lamps”) is spot on for this festival, when every household is ablaze with light! It’s like Christmas, the New Year and the Fourth of July all rolled up into one, with gambling and new clothes thrown in for good measure…

HALLOWEEN

All Hallows Eve, by Jessica Galbreth

HALLOWEEN – The ancient festival of Samhaim

Halloween, the light-hearted modern festivity on Oct. 31 of ghosts and ghoulies, frights and feast, trick or treat, has much more serious (and scary!) origins in the ancient Celtic Feast of the Dead. This festival has survived, due to its connection with the archetypal energies that it evokes and due to its more recent connection with the Christian festival of All Souls, which the Church has instituted as a substitute for this pagan celebration.

All Saints’ Day (November 1), also known as All Hallows’ Day is followed by All Souls’ Day (Nov 2), a christianized version of the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, the Feast of the Dead. The astrological pivot point for the celebration of the dead at Samhain is marked by the acronychal rising of the Pleaides (“acronychal” means “the point opposite the Sun”, i.e., rising as the Sun is setting). Prayers have been said for the dead at this time since the prehistoric era. Ancient cultures timed their seasonal festivities by the stars, and the Pleaides were a major cosmic trigger across the whole of the ancient world.
